It seems that this is a very common problem, from what I’ve read in some Google searches I did. For my desktop and laptop both running Windows 7, they both have the same problems with Windows being extremely unresponsive during file transfers (just transferring files from one drive to another, not to the internet or from the internet). The people experiencing the same unresponsiveness in Windows 7 and Firefox, or any other program during those events, all are suggested to check their Event Viewer status and display the events in the threads that they posted their problems in. But I just think it’s a problem for a reason, that file transfers require alot of CPU and RAM….

So the first time this happened was on my desktop, I had my spare HDD connected and I was transferring files from my backup drive to the spare HDD, and it was going to take at least 4-5 hours. It was about 400GB’s, and this of course was in Windows 7 (I only say that because sometimes I use Ubuntu to transfer files to avoid Windows errors). Guess what, I could not do anything, I could not even use Firefox.

Specs for my desktop:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel Core i7 860 2.80Ghz

16GB’s RAM

128GB SSD

1TB HDD (for media)

ATI Radeon HD 6870 1GB

So as you can see, my system shouldn’t have these slow downs at all. I used to have the AMD Phenom 1100T X6 CPU, which is a 6-core CPU running at 3.3Ghz. I never had these problems. Could it just be the Intel CPU?, I don’t know.

So the problem on my laptop was during a Comodo Internet Security scan, I get all the same symptoms as I got on my desktop during a file transfer. Everytime I click on Firefox it just says “not responding” on the top window frame.

I guess I made this post to see if anyone out there is experiencing the same issues in Windows 7, if you have a better solution to fixing it than what I have come up with (to just not do file transfers or antivirus scans while I’m using my computer) then post in the comments!. One thing I am going to try is to right click on explorer.exe after typing in CTRL+ALT+DEL and ending that process, that will make Windows Explorer completely restart without restarting my computer. I’ll only do that if I am not waiting on a file transfer or something…
