Well, normally I don’t make posts on any news, but I had to in regards to my childhood-long favorite game. The game goes far back, where I normally was a Driver fan, I caught onto Vice City when it came out for the graphics and abilities you had in the game to buy properties and drive cars over jumps and blow up cars, oh and fly the helicopters!. Then came San Andreas, which was a huge upgrade to GTA with the ability to drive any vehicle, going from a field tractor on a farm to a Jet or a full-sized airline Jet too!. In GTA IV there was less of San Andreas in it, you would have to play the games yourself to know what I mean. But I think GTA V has more of a San Andreas feel to it. Check out the trailer below and see what you think.
I was astounded to what you could do in the game from seeing that trailer, it was like sitting down and watching a movie in the theaters… even though I’m only in a computer chair. I simply fell in love, and a tear came to my eye…. bless you guys at Rockstar Games!.
Yes, it is happening to me too, and yes, you are not alone.
But here is my fix, and a fix for the rest of you going through the same problem, thanks to this link. Right click on “Starcraft II.exe” and click on “Run as Administrator”.
Then you will get this window:
Then it will ask if you want to verify the contents in your Starcraft 2 folder, I just clicked “yes”. It didn’t state it was going to send anonymous user statistics to some server, which most people don’t like.
It was said by Sony themselves, according to CNET in a blog post. The Playstation Network went down yesterday morning, though for those who had suffered through the security breach last year shall know it’s only for maintenance purposes. And I have never heard of Xbox Live going down temporarily for maintenance purposes.. but according to a quick Google search, on June 16th of 2009 it went down for maintenance. So okay, hopefully this is just a one-time kind of deal.
The senior manager from sony for the Playstation Digital Platforms, Matthew Harper (no not Steven Harper) had announced the temporary shutdown in a company blog post just yesterday in saying that the gaming and digital media network was going to be taken down at 6AM PT yesterday (obviously it was posted before that day) and that it will be offline for around 13 hours, or till around 7PM PT. And along that time period the Playstation Store, Playstation Home and also online gaming was not available.
The timing on this outage is kind of suspicious. Just about one year ago the Playstation Network was brought down by hackers, that’s almost exactly one year. While the weeks of downtime were long and strong, the company had revealed that lots of user data was taken, which includes lots of credit card numbers. And then when the PSN was restored, Sony had made it clear that the service was “more secure”.
And it was described in the scheduled maintenance that it was a “routine” thing, and they had planned to announce their conclusion through their own PlayStation Twitter account.
After looking at their Twitter account page, it only says “Today’s PSN maintenance has concluded ahead of schedule, and service has been restored. Game on!”. So the “conclusion” I assume will be shown later on this week sometime, that’s just a guess.
It seems that video games are bringing in more dough than movies these days, in terms of the “box office takings” and such and such. One grand example is Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It sent $400 million directly to Activisions back account, with a total of 6.5 million copies sold just that day. How long did it take for them to do this?, well let’s just say it was not in a month, it wasn’t in 3 weeks, not in 1 week, not in 3 days, it was just in one day. They have become this successful because not only are their games well made, but they are made to be super addictive. With 3 Modern Warfares that have been released so far they have basically built upon their successes, and have become super huge huge huge successful, so if Modern Warfare 4 was released next week and was even better than Modern Warfare 3, it probably would make another $400 million overnight. Talk about an overnight jackpot, all from making a quality video game and making it well known over a period of 4-5 years so far.
But anyways, this is all also thanks to the title having the advantage of being the biggest game launch of any game to this date. So with Activisions decision to release less games by creating better quality games and releasing them each year, this shows there success on paper, proof that it is indeed working.
If you want to read more on how many copies of their game sold check this out. Just like last years launch of Modern Warfare 2, the Call of Duty franchise has set release-date records with different and higher records made each time, always getting higher and higher. Did you contribute to these sales, well if you play Modern Warfare games obviously you did. And they earned it.
Analytics of the Mobile market from a company called Flurry shows that there is a continued shift in the marketshare of mobile gaming in dedicated devices compared to smartphones, and other devices used for multipurposes. The results, after being compiled by Flurry from the NPD market research and Flurry’s own mobile application data, Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android mobile OS’s are accounting for 58% of the gaming in portable devices market share in the U.S. as of 2011, which is a big jump from 2010 when the leaders Nintendo and Sony took 57% of the marketshare of the mobile gaming category.
The most striking trend is that iOS and Android games have tripled their market share from roughly 20% in 2009 to nearly 60% in just two years. Simultaneously, Nintendo, the once dominant player, has been crushed down to owning about one-third of market in 2011, from having controlled more than two-thirds in 2009. Combined, iOS and Android game revenue delivered $500 million, $800 million and $1.9 billion over 2009, 2010 and 2011, respectively.
The data from Flurry for 2011 is coming from estimates for the remaining two months of the year, though it suggests that the rapid climb in gaming on mobile phones is not showing any signs of stopping. The dynamics of the market of free and low-cost games is supplemented sometimes by purchases of in-app, and being played on devices with multiple functions which versus dedicated devices for gaming have a high-cost usually in game titles that are clearly happening in favor of the iOS and the Android. Results have been improving as the gaming market is increasingly increasing and drawing more and more attention to casual gamers that are willing to pay a small fee for each game to be played on their smartphones, meanwhile players that are established have not yet seen not only their shares decrease last year, and this year, but every year it’s decreasing, and it will only get worse next year.
It has been resisted by Nintendo in the pressure that is increasing to bring their games to other mobile platforms, they have been sticking to their old tradition of only having their games on their platforms, just like Apple only has their software on their devices. It is also suggested by Flurry that the increasing landscape of the gaming industry in the portables category is going to soon bring Nintendo face-to-face decision of either going the putting games on mobile platforms that are dominating the portable gaming industry, or watching themselves die a slow death in the market with Apple and Google taking over.
I think that Apple and Google did not try to do this though, developers just saw the opportunity to use the hardware within the mobile smartphones to make games, and they succeeded greatly. I myself wouldn’t buy a PSP or a Nintendo 3D3, because my phone has games on it, what more do I need?, I might aswell just use just one device for everything. I think this is a similar situation with Sega and gaming consoles, when they were forced to go to just making games for their competitors. And at least Nintendo and Sony wont suffer completely with having their feet deep into the gaming console market pretty well.
The trailer that GTA fans have been waiting for that was announced when the game “Grand Theft Auto V” was announced that showed a countdown before the trailer was first released, has been released. Rockstar games uploaded it onto their website, with no release date of the game announced yet, but the game stars a character from “Vice City”, and the storyline is about a man who regresses into a new life of crime after trying to retire.
The newest sequel to the series of GTA games was announced just last week with a banner on Rockstar’s own site. The trailer shows video of buildings like the Los Angeles-esque Los Santos, a city located in San Francisco that is called San Fierro, and also a city based in Las Vegas which is called Las Venturas. The last footage in the ending of the trailer showed a Hollywood-style kind of sign that said “Vinewood” and in earlier footage of the trailer a man is shown hiking to the foot of a mountain range.
In video a narrator (sounding like the main characters voice) says he “wanted to retire” from something like “that line of work” and says he wants to be a father, while putting his feet up and taking car of children. But with his involvement in crime in his new life will make that inevitable. The video of the trailer is shown below, via youtube embedded.
I myself am a die hard Grand Theft Auto fan, there is no game out there that is like this kind of game. Being able to steal cars, hijack jets and helicopters, fly them into buildings, take jumps in super fast sports cars… it’s just a ton of fun and you can waste your whole life playing it because it’s soo time consuming. All in all I believe there will be eventually a release date.
The comparison is to some not really a comparison, with Electronic Art’s “Battlefield 3″ versus Activisions “Call of Duty 6, Modern Warfare 3″. Only time will tell to see which game sells out more, which I THINK will say which game is better, not just by playing them both and deciding which one is better. With Activisions Black Ops beating Medal Of Honor already, they are now set to take out Battlefield 3 apparently, with analysts saying that at a retail margin, Call of Duty will take out Battlefield 3, 2 to 1. The predictions goes as it follows:
- MW3 sales worldwide in 2011: 20 million
- MW3 sales worldwide in 2012: 5 million additionally
-Battlefield 3 sales worldwide in 2011: 10 million
-Battlefield 3 sales worldwide in 2012: 3 million
“Theres a strong buzz going on about Battlefield 3 because it’s just a new game that has just come out”, as said by Taylor. “Call of Duty is mountain that has always been taller than any other FPS on all consoles, which everyone expects and predicts that it will do really well. Battlefield 3 has gathered more attention because it’s the newest kid on the block, where MW3 is still packing it’s bags getting ready to move to later on be moved in on the same block.”
“Electronic Arts has become overconfident in expecting themselves to become directly above Modern Warfare 3, which in different words means, this is just another year that EA is trying to take out Modern Warfare”, says Colin Sebastian, analyst of games at Robert W. Baird & Co. “Both of these games will drive the industry of games higher for this coming holiday. ”
Michael Pachter, a game analyst from Wedbush Morgan Securities believed that Activision will be victorious in this war for dollars in consumers this year. But he also believes that in the end that press reviews, in other words Metacritic scores will have to give the final say in the final numbers, and in sales too.
“EA put alot more bang for their buck behind their game, Battlefield 3, this year, meanwhile Activision is most likely ‘dawned’ by the “defection” of one-third of all the Infinity Ward team which made Modern Warfare 2,” says Pachter. “While I’m thinking that the quality of staff for Modern Warfare 3 matches directly up with any game virtually any game, it’s quite possible that most game reviewers will be alot more cynical, giving an opening for BF3 to chink away. It is my aspect that game reviewers in the community will really like the DICE people, who actually made BF3.”
Pachter and Taylor both believe personally that about half of all Battlefield 3 buyers will pick up Modern Warfare 3 additionally.
I personally, (if I had the time to play the games) would pick up both games. But Battlefield 3 for the PC, and Modern Warfare 3 for the Xbox 360, since all my friends play the game online for both Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops previously and currently. I don’t know anyone personally that will play Battlefield 3 on the 360 with me, I hate playing people I don’t know online. It’s so much better with friend’s I know.
AAAAnd my personal opinion about Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, is that there are alot of fans of specifically one of those games, that like to flame the others. This is the reality of any kind of games. Any kind of cars too, like people who like american made cars, or imports better. But I like both kinds, in games. I do like imports better than american made because they are simply more reliable. Anyways, if you are a hater, flame away in the comments.
Last piece I would like to add. If you like doing more than running around in a sandbox which is only what you can do in Call of Duty, then Battlefield may be for you:
So I just got this email from Rockstargames, and they just announced the trailer for Grand Theft Auto V (5). This is freaking awesome news. I feel good to be blogging about it at the time of receiving the email. I was getting tired of hearing about “L.A. Noire” as it wasn’t a game that really caught my eye, now we get to watch and wait for something that has been confirmed to be coming out, no rumors or nothing anymore. SO we have 7 days people, which I will be spending sitting down at the computer screen watching the timer tick.
Climbing it’s way to the high number of 60 industry awards, Battlefield 3 is out just next week and people may or may not be lined up at retail stores as it should be available through the digital download service. This launch trailer shows gamers some insight on the intense single player campaign, gameplay and the regular trailer mumbo jumbo you see in all game trailers. In the video it shows a sinister power that is going up in the Middle-East, and Marine Sergeant “Black” that finds out how far he could go to defend his country. Interesting story.
But to me there are Jet’s, Sky Diving, Hummers, Bicycles (I think), Helicopters and other countless vehicles to get yourself around in. What do you get in all of the Call Of Duty’s online?, just sand-box running around and killing each other. Also, when your walking around the map and you want to climb up onto a roof or something that WOULD be possible in real life, you CAN’T!, it’s like “Oh, I can’t climb onto this tire”, and like “Oh theres a stupid piece of wood in my way so I cannot climb over this tree branch”, COME ON. Don’t get me wrong, of course it’s extremely fun at some times, but I just like flying Jet’s into buildings or driving Hummers over cliffs, and living, more. The game is out on October 25th, so don’t miss out on it.
The first Xbox was a hit, it came out AFTER the Playstation 2 that was a huge hit too, but it’s game “Halo” redifined FPS’s and set a standard for online play, with the ability to talk to others in the same game being played online. When the Xbox 360 came out it was so popular and it was the highest console in demand as it was the first next-gen console to come out and the only one before the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii came out. The Xbox 360′s we first seen in my eyes as this beautiful, giant iPod that did video games like no one has ever seen:
*Sparkle Sparkle*, right?. Well after 5 years of the console being released, take a look at what people have done:
So people did not do this specifically to the Xbox 360, it just happened. But one main cause was heavy usage though that’s not our faults either. But it was common to happen. All that hype faded with the console being out for a few months with this happening pretty commonly.
This I found in Google Images. Yeah it looks like someone burned a hole in the side of their 360, but why?.
Some people think they are better than God himself, so they write their names on their 360′s just to make themselves feel good about themselves. This guy certainly felt good about himself. And that wraps it up for the famous things people did to their Xbox 360′s, wearing the name down from “Next-gen” to “just a game console, like any other”. I bought one off a crack head for 60$, giving it to a friend of mine just so that everytime I come over I don’t have to bring MY OWN Xbox 360 over too each time. It still remains the most heavily played console in the multiplayer world. Playstation 3′s online multiplayer service that has always been free, was shut down by hackers a few months ago, check more info out on that here. For me, I find Xbox Live to be the most user friendly online service I’ve ever used, compared to any other PC game’s GUI for multiplayer, and the Xbox 360′s own GUI itself, offline or online is specifically aimed towards being user-friendly. But now to the point:
Microsoft’s next-generation console to be either called the “Xbox 3″ or the “Xbox 720″ is rumoured to be released in 2013 according to a report. The amount of time between the original or first Xbox and the Xbox 360 was almost exactly four years. The gap between the second console (Xbox 360) and the third console (Xbox 720?) may end up being twice as long.
Reports from developers show that chip manufacturers and some software middleware firms are expecting the next generation console from Microsoft to be announced at E3 in 2013. And with that, the release day being following just in time for the holidays. This is the same as the release for the Xbox 360, right before christmas. The Xbox 360 was revealed just six months before the console hit retail stores in November 2005.
It is also suggested in the report that Lionhead is already working on their next title called “Fable Next” for the fouthcoming console coming out. Other software developers which include EA, and Crytek are also rumored to be creating their games currently with “preliminary hardware”.
The reports are following a pretty recent confirmation that a number of employees working for Microsoft are already on the console team for the upcoming console. A number of LinkedIn accounts made for Microsoft employees are being listed as working on their hardware. As Jeff Faulkner being the creative director for the “Xbox Next Gen”.
Microsoft is currently refusing to comment, as said by “Develop”.
This post was originally made on Gamespot, except for the information in this post discluding news on the next generation Xbox.
