It’s a big deal when your website decides to stop working. It’s nice to know when it happens, too. Well now there are services out there that can notify you by a phone call, SMS text or even through email to let you know, so you can do something about it. Pingdom is the only free service out of all the options below, so skip down to the bottom if you only want SMS texts and email notifications for free. Here are the options you have:
1. A Phone Call (with SMS text and email alerts for a price) – Alertyx , Wormly or Pager Duty
Update: This service is no longer in beta and is not free. This is a similar service to the service that delivers texts and emails, for a price it gives you a phone call when ever your site is down, the only limitation is that the phone call is limited to once within six hours. The services are currently offered in these countries: Canada, United States, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, Poland, Spain and Sweden.
This is a trial service like Alertyx that actually has a Bronze ($19/month with 8 websites and 40 free SMS alerts), Gold ($79/month with 50 sites with 125 free SMS alerts) or the Enterprise plan ($299/month for 300 sites with 500 free SMS alerts).
This service is $18/month for every user, with unlimited US/Canada phone and SMS alerts, you can receive email alerts worldwide (really?), and international phone and SMS alerts are available. You get a 30 day free trial, and it’s said on the website that it’s easy to set up and use, and helps you reduce the downtime of your site. I think this is the best deal out of all of the sites, considering you get all the alerts you need in 3 formats (SMS, email or a phone call) for only $18/month, that’s if your paranoid about your site going down.
2. SMS Text & Email – Pingdom
This is what I call, convenient. Simple click “Free Sign Up” to get started. I mean who wants to pay any more for anything anyways?.
In the image below, enter your email address and password twice to register for your free account.
Now you must create your settings for your website, and make sure to check off Want to get alerts?.
Enter the alert settings that you prefer, I just left everything at default. Make sure you enter everything perfectly and then click on Create Check.
So I would say that for the free option being free, it’s the best option, because why do you need to get a phone call when your site is down?, a text or email is all you need. If you don’t have data on your phone, a SMS text is always good enough.
