Apparently, Google is creating a wireless home entertainment center that is designed to be streaming music throughout the room it’s placed in, according to the Wall Street Journal. This new device would be made under the brand of Google and also would be created upon the Google Android OS. Google has already sold a few different items under their own name, though they have never designed their own consumer electronics product themselves. For an example, the Google Nexus smartphone is made in partnership with HTC.
Google’s Android unit has led a multi-year effort to develop the new entertainment device, which may possibly stream other digital media besides music and is expected to be unveiled later this year, people familiar with the matter said.
The new device, along with Google’s pending purchase of device maker Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., shows how serious the Internet giant is about wanting to control both the software and hardware process, a formula used by rival Apple Inc.
This new system would be giving users the option to download their own music and also stream it through the wireless, Google-branded speakers or any other devices that are compatible. This system is sounding very similar to those created by Sonos, which was looked over by The New York Times in a very recent report.
No indications of a time-frame have been provided by WSJ, for any kind of public announcement or an on-sale date for the newest home entertainment products coming from Google. Though Apple is somewhat already in the market of the living room products, but they no longer make any home speaker products. They have their AirPlay, Airport Express and also Apple TV products as part of their attempt to get into the living room home entertainment market. Though in the recent months the company has been rumored to be working on a whole new television set that is Siri-enabled.
