Ok, so I made the switch to the Mac again. I grew up with Mac’s, and dont worry I’m not gonna go too much in depth of that topic BUT. I tried finding a solid application that supports Facebook Chat so that I could chat with all my friends that ever existed without having a web page open all the time that’s glitchy and annoying. I look at the MSN for Mac, but it doesnt support Facebook Chat like it does for Windows which was the most awesome and most functional thing ever. At least Video Chat works on MSN for the Mac.
I tried Adium, like Pidgin but with a different name. It’s open source and supports most popular connects which there is too many to list. Though it disconnects from Facebook Chat alot and I just gave up with it. So I googled something, and came across this thread. How to: “Add Facebook Chat to iChat“.
So here we go:
iChat being the coolest chat program on the Mac, has added Facebook Chat to their list of supported chat protocols. You no longer need to leave Firefox open. To the devolopment team at Facecrack, thanks for allowing the capability of adding Facebook Chat in other chat programs like iChat, Jabber, Google Talk and other programs aswell like MSN and AIM so far.
First step: Launch iChat and click “Preferences” in the iChat menu list.
Second step: Click on “Accounts” and select the “+” at the very bottom of this pane.
Third step: Click on “Jabber” in the drop list and then type in the following information:
Screen name: [yourownusername]@chat.facebook.com
Password [obviously your Facecrack password]
(unclick the box named “Use SSL”)
And when you have completed the following steps click on the “done” button and you’ll see your Facebook Chat list when you open iChat everytime. Now any messages coming in while your browsing the Facebook site will appear in iChat, if you are logged onto Facebook or not, obviously.. like DUH!!!!.
If logging onto Facebook is not something you have time for, or you think your too good for doing it the old fashioned way and you just want to talk to your friends at any time, Facebook chat in iChat is here for you. If you are a Windows user, try out Windows Live Messenger which includes support for Facebook Chat out of the box.
