The next thing is already here. It started off with being used in the iPad, the 3G models. There are basically two form factors for SIM cards, which is 2FF for regular sized SIM cards used in smartphones regularly, and now the “Micro-SIM” cards are 3FF. I dont get why the number is higher, but hey, that’s what the boss says, that’s the name given for it now. Apparently you can even take a 2FF regular sized SIM card and form it into a 3FF card by following this tutorial on Youtube. Both cards are backwards compatible with each other, all you need is an adapter apparently.
Apple apparently wanted smaller SIM cards for smaller phones, and so they have started to use them already. But I think that one day SIM cards will become even smaller, as phones continue to shrink aswell. It’s definitely interesting to see gadgets and chips shrink everyday.
