It has been reported by Digitimes that a generally small amount of components for the 15″ super-thin laptop from Apple will be shipping currently this month with mass shipments of the laptop start ing in the beginning of Match 2012.
Upstream suppliers of Apple have recently started shipping a small volume of components for a 15-inch ultra-thin notebook model from Apple in November and the device could be either MacBook Air or just a thinner MacBook Pro. The new MacBook is expected to appear as early as the second quarter of 2012, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
It’s unclear by Digitimes, if they know if the parts are to be used for the 15″ MacBook Air or on a much thinner 15″ Macbook Pro. Last July it was reported by Macrumors that Apple just was finishing up on their new ultra-thin 15″ laptop, and at the end of October the rumor was that the new machine was almost finished in it’s production stages.
Likely, it could be that the slim 15″ MacBook may use a SSD instead of a HDD which is similarly to the current MacBook Air models available now, and it may “forego” an optical drive. The line of the MacBook Pro line was tweaked by Apple this fall with a small CPU, GPU and storage upgrade refresh.
It could also be possible that the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro lines will be integrated, with there only being one series of MacBook’s.
